Engagement ring- is it about HIM or YOU?

Just wanted some other opinions on this. My partner and I have discussed engagement ring styles and while he likes the classic, small and understated square cut- I like a small/medium cushion cut. They are completely different styles and we have completely different tastes when it comes to this. It has nothing to do with money, I've pointed out several rings that are FAR cheaper than what he would have chosen.

Before anyone says I should just be happy with whatever I get and I'm being ungrateful- it's me that will be wearing the ring and I don't know why he wouldn't take my feelings into consideration when choosing one? I don't hate square cut diamonds, they just aren't me and I find a cushion cut much more appealing. I don't know how to feel about this lol of course I will accept whatever ring he chooses, he's the love of my life and I could not have asked for a better man. It just irks me that he feels his liking the ring is more important than me liking it.

The first thing to keep in mind that a ring isn't ABOUT either one of you. It's a SYMBOL and you don't even NEED to have one at all for a happy marriage. Everyday in your married life you're going to be compromising...BOTH of you. You may as well start now. Stop sweating the small stuff.

That said, the woman has to wear the ring everyday. If you get a ring you don't like, you'll be looking looking looking for another, even after the nuptials are done.

I have to wear my rig for the rest of my life so I'm incredibly grateful that my husband took that into consideration. But yes, I'm also thankful for that he chose me and took the time to pick a ring and spend that money (whatever amount it was) on me and the symbol of our marriage.

I've worn my ring now for almost 10 years. I couldn't be happier with it. Marriage is much more than a ring, absolutely, 100%. I would have worn a cracker box ring if that's what he gave me, but him taking my opinions into consideration tells me a lot about who my husband is as a person. He always puts me and my needs first. I do the same for him. Why wouldn't he want to make you happy? Ask yourself that question because that issue is MUCH bigger than a ring. People don't magically become awesome human beings once married. If anything they settle into more of who they are. Make sure you are with the right person before moving forward

What in the world 🤔 He loves you, you are the one wearing the ring. If money isn't an issue he should get the ring style you want. I didn't know couples had this issue. It should be a given that person A should try and get person B a ring that person B wants because it will person B's ring.

My husband asked me to show him a variety of rings that I liked online, and said he'd figure it out. I showed him probably 30 examples of styles and stones I was happy with, because I didn't want a diamond center stone. He took those into consideration, and personally designed a custom ring for me that was better than I could have imagined, and made me cry with how perfect it is for me! When my hands got swollen from pregnancy, I even kept on my engagement ring instead of my wedding band.

When my hubby asked about my preference, I said square and white gold (and also told him no more than $2k). The rest I left to him. He did an amazing job. Still love his ring after 7 years. Yes it's for you, but let him have a little say too! Good luck.

I would say it should be what you want since you are the one wearing it but essentially I think the man should pick it out. Usually they pick it out to the woman's liking though 🤔 I let my man completely choose every aspect of my ring and although it wouldn't be my first choice, I love it because I know he was thinking of me when picking it out!
