Regular STI testing necessary?

Question

Why is it necessary to get tests for STIs every few months if you're with the same partner? Am I just dumb in thinking the only way you can get one is through sex?

Because people can cheat. Because some things take time to show up in test results. Because some things can stay dormant. Because somehow, someway, there was a hep breakout at a local Olive Garden once. This world is wild, so protect yourself.

I was with the same partner for almost a year and I got chlamydia.... if I would have gotten tested earlier I wouldn't have gotten pid or lost a Fallopian tube. Just get tested, what's it gonna hurt?!

Because even if you have full trust in your partner, you don't 100% always know. People can be good liars. And it's better to nip it in the butt if you find out. Plus by only having one partner things add up pretty quickly

Yes, for the many reasons others have posted. But I would like to add the necessity of pap smears as well. My first pap came back abnormal and it revealed I have CIN 2 cervical dysplesia caused by a cancerous form of HPV. I had dated the same guy, my first actually, for two years while 17-19 and it wasn't until afterwards that a bunch of females from my tiny town came out about his infidelity. That was long enough ago for HPV to develope into abnormal cells on the surface of my cervix, and I found out about it almost exactly a year ago. I have unintentionally spread it to my current partner of 3 years because my first pap was a year ago...and pap smears are, as far as I have been able to find, the only way they test for HPV. I honestly haven't been tested for HIV since I was in high school, as it appears those blood tests are not offered in a routine screening, so straight up just ask to be tested for everything at the very least once a year during your gynecological check up. And always get that check up.
