Darling, please don't self harm. It's a rabbit hole that only leads down. I struggled with severe depression for four years and stopped self harming until an emotionally abusive relationship pushed me back to it. Now I've been out of that two months and the last time I cut was a month ago. The more you do it, the more of a habit it becomes- but it only makes you feel worse, I promise. There's nothing good About it. I've had scars for years that won't fade and I don't want to see you go down the same track.

I said any excuse to keep anyone from knowing what happened. I reached out for help and no one was there. But sweetie, you're not alone. We're all here for you and more people than you think have been right where you are right now.

When you feel like self harming, think about someone that cares about you. A younger cousin, a caring grandparent, a friend. Don't think about how you feel about yourself- think about how they would feel to see it and know what it was. If you don't want  to hurt anyone you care about by them finding out, then don't do it.

Sending good vibes to you; hoping the journey to self-love and a better mental state is an easy one. (or as easy as it can be)

I've scratched myself plenty of times and had the same outcome, and because you said "can I get away with saying it isn't" it shows that it is.

If you don't want others (friends only, please inform your family if this really is self harm) to know, tell them you had a really bad itch last NIGHT so you couldn't see you had bled at all or anything.

But please, tell someone if you are feeling suicidal or depressed. Or anything else. 
Also, make sure to look after the cut, it can easily get infections.
