Will you be delaying babies first bath?

With my first we got him bathed hours after he was born. After a lot of research we've decided to delay this babies first bath. What are all of you doing?

Delaying a bath gives the skin time to absorb some of the vernix that is left which is "nature's best moisturizer" and helps form a protective barrier on the skin. The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding (book) has some interesting info on how there is a microbiome on the skin similar to in your gut (this is what probiotic pills are intended to support) and having healthy cells and good bacteria on the skin helps baby fight potential issues (infections/disease/etc). Doing skin to skin with mom supposedly can also help transfer some of mom's good bacteria from her skin to baby's. Bathing too soon or too often can disrupt the balance of bacteria on the skin and also contribute to drying the skin out. Babies don't really get sweaty so as long as you are keeping their skin folds dry (free of milk or other dampness) and their genitals clean they really don't need to bathe often. A daily wipe down and maybe a weekly bath (or as needed if they have a really bad diaper situation) should be fine for even the first couple months.

I obviously can't post links so you'll have to do your own research. With my son after he was bathed he had to spend quite a bit of time under the lamp because his tempature dropped too much. Some of the benefits are reduced risk of infection, better bonding time with mom and more stable temperature. A bath in the hospital is more of a learning experience for parents anyways.

I am doing at least an hour of bonding time, then they can bathe my baby. But I love that skin to skin feeling immediately😍😍😍

We will be delaying her bath for probably 24 hours. The vernix is good for their skin and immunity!

I would like to know the same thing.. I've never came across a medical reason to delay a bath. What are the pros to delaying?

I'm delaying cord clamping for 15 mins baby will come directly to me for the first hour then I will bathe my baby when I fell it's necessary delaying the bath has so many benefits. I will also be denying iv when I get to the hospital and will not be bed ridden

So the website I looked at childrenmd I think said 8-48 hours...how long do you plan on delaying... after reading I'm going to speak with my doctor and consider delaying at least the first 8

With my daughter, the hospital gave us an hour of skin to skin before bathing her without me asking. This time with my son, I will ask for it if they don't do that again but I'm pretty sure it's standard.
