birthing classes??

This is my first baby and wondering who took birthing classes and was it worth it or did you feel like it was a waste of time/money and experiencing is the best?

Honestly I didn't want to take any classes, especially after I read ina mays guide to childbirth book, it literally changed my whole view of labor and how to get through it, honestly breathing is such a small part of getting through contractions that all younreally need is deep breathing and everyone knows how to deep breathe. Inhale exhale etc, I'm not saying don't take a class if you want too I'm just saying that for me reading that book literally gave me everything I could ever need or imagine I would need on to handle labor etc! I recommend this book it literally is the best book I've read on labor delivery etc ever and the most informative !

This is my second child and my husband's 5th. Neither is us have taken a birthing class until now and we both are enjoying it!

We're doing the hospital tour, but not the class. It's $150 and my husband (he's a nurse at the hospital) talked to some of his coworkers who took the class. They said it was pretty outdated and really geared toward women who are okay with lots of interventions. So I'm taking an online course through givingbirthnaturally.com. It was $50 and good for women who are aiming to go natural. I'm also reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth...good but definitely very hippie!

We decided not to do any birth classes, one because of cost in our area and two because we are very proactive in doing our own reading and research. Our Midwife did not think it was necessary for us to take any classes. This is our first child.

Birthing class, newborn basics, cpr, and breastfeeding class.  I learned something new in each of them.  Even after reading book 2" thick on breastfeeding.  Also sometimes it's just nice to have someone else tell you and have that time blocked out to learn.

I went to a birthing class that a local doula/doctor practice held, that was recommended to me by my own doula and several Pilates instructors. It was an entire day, $400. Half of the class was anatomy and science, the other half was how to use a birthing ball, your rights as a patient, hospital particulars, etc;. This  class was designed for people who wanted something beyond a Lamaz or Bradley class. If you do decide to go to a birthing class, find one that covers topics that really interest you. For me, I loved spending 4 hours on anatomy and different chemical and hormonal reactions, drug options and side effects, etc;. The class really surprised me. But if I had gone to a 'standard' class I probably would have been miserable. I researched and called about 10 different classes before I settled on this one that came so highly recommended.

I took them at my hospital with a midwife. 2hours once a night for 6 weeks. With my SO. It covered not just birth but also caring for newborn. It was fantastic! Especially for him I think, because he probably would've had no idea what's coming otherwise. Made me very reassured meeting the midwives beforehand and knowing how good they are at their job. Worth every penny (though these things aren't terribly expensive here in Australia as gov subsidises).

My doctor did say, to becareful with birthing classes because sometimes no info is better than the wrong information! Which makes sense. He said if anything go to breastfeeding classes if that's what you choose to do!

My husband and I are going to a "weekend pass" one. It was $135. Even though I had my son threw a previous marriage, my husband never had a child so I thought that this would be a way to ease him in. He loves knowing things and he is such a book worm (lol) that he asked for this. So we are scheduled to do this next weekend. 
My last doctor appointment said that I have to have a reoccurring C-section because with my son she had to do a "U" shaped cut and she said it would be too high risk for me to have a V back. We are still going to the birth classes because I want my husband comfortable. And also, you never know if my baby will come early. And if that happens I feel reassured that I personally will know what to do.
