paraguard/non hormonal BC?

Hey guys. So I've tried the pill form of BC in the past and it totally does not work with me. Nothing hormonal does I turn into a total emotional basket case! 🙄
So I've been looking into other BC forms. I'm getting married in July and would like to stop using condoms and switch to something else. We won't be trying for a baby, but if nature happens it happens, I just don't want to use condoms with my soon to be husband anymore! Plus he has issues with them and it really hurts his self esteem. 
I was looking into the para guard or another copper IUD. I haven't had any kids yet, I know one of the IUDs they only use for women who have had kids. 
What are your thoughts/experiences with the copper IUDs? Any emotional side effects? Heavier periods at first? Etc.

Depends on how your period is to begin with. I have the copper iud. Before the iud, my period was pretty short, light and had almost no discomfort (except for the occasional cramp). The first 6-8 months of having the copper iud, I had VERY heavy periods that seemed to last forever! But it has now normalized. No cramps, side effects or anything. I recommend it if your periods are naturally light and short to begin with and you don't mine a few months of thinking you're going to bleed to death!
