Confused, period or miscarriage

So I started spotting on the 12/5 with cramps which I normally don't get which I was 2 days late aswell. Yesterday 13/5 I began bleeding very heavy having to change my bad every hour and it was drenched dark blood? I passed a blood clot the size of a golf ball and it was so painful for 4 hours it hurt afterwards but the pain began to go ( I'm still in pain ) and now my period is getting light again? I'm really confused by this.. me and my husband have been trying to convince for 8 months was this a miscarriage? Iv had very painful boobs for 3 weeks and haven't tested as Iv been waiting for a missed period..
