Mother's Day After Miscarriage

Stephanie • Trying for baby #1 since May 2016. Praying for our rainbow baby!
My sister sent me this letter for Mother's Day. She suffered 6 miscarriage on her way to become a mother of 3. I just recently suffered my first miscarriage after 1 year of trying and 1 year of negative tests. These were her words to me. I hope they help some of you!

Hey Steph, I love you. I wanted to send you a note and hope I’m not making things tougher on you. If you’re too raw and sensitive maybe don’t read on and save it for another day. My desire is to encourage you, but it may seem like the opposite. Sometimes empathy can make us feel our own feelings deeper when someone is trying to feel them with us. Every loss is different and I don’t assume that I know what you’re feeling or thinking. I do know that grief is tricky. There’s no guidebook that truly captures what’s coming. Some times can be harder than others along the way. Those dates don’t always make sense, but I would imagine Sunday may be a tough one for you. You are a mother. But you have no child to hold. You are a mother, but few people know it. You are a mother, but no one can wish you a Happy Mother’s Day. If you’re pregnant again, it might still be a difficult day for you.

Be sad. Be comforted. Celebrate having an awesome mom like ours. But Please, take care of you. It can be easy to get lost in the hustle of Sundays and holidays, but take some time to honor your feelings and your new role that can never be taken from you.

As your fur babies can attest, you are a great mom. You loved your sweet little baby possibly more than anyone else. Be lifted by your sadness - it means you are a wonderful mother! It means your connection, your hopes and dreams for you and your baby, and your love were big.

God is our refuge and strength,    an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam    and the mountains quake with their surging.[c]

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,    the holy place where the Most High dwells.God is within her, she will not fall;    God will help her at break of day.Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;    he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done,    the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease    to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;    he burns the shields[d] with fire.10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;    I will be exalted among the nations,    I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord Almighty is with us;    the God of Jacob is our fortress.
