Sometimes man.... Sometimes

Barbara • So excited for my rainbow baby!

So I just joined a "mom group" for the first time. I just moved to a new town and I dont know anyone. My son, now being 6 months old, I wanted to start socializing him with other babies. So we have a meet up and conversation of what sports they all want to put their kids in.

Moms of boys: football or soccer or karate

Moms of girls: Ballet or gymnastics

Me: Ballet or Gymnastics

Lady mom who took my info: oh! I'm sorry, I must have written your information down wrong. I thought you said you had a boy.

( my kid is always dressed gender neutral for the most part)

Me: I did have a boy.

Other moms: blank stares, side glances at each other.

Lady mom: well moms, lets get walking!

Topic changes to homemade baby food and the like.

Am I crazy or weird for wanting my son to start in gymnastics or ballet? In my family it was normal if Boys played with dolls, and girls played with army men. We all started out in gymnastics or ballet because it was best to learn balance and focus. Although we were all fairly clumsy, so that could have been the reason. I mean, all moms are different right? But at the end of the day we are all just trying to make it through and hope we dont break down from exhaustion. We all want healthy, happy, vibrant kids. So why would it matter what I start my son in? Sorry, I'm just kind of ranting. Ive lived in a bubble for a while and haven't dealt with many other moms. And I know they have their opinion to, and probably didn't intend to make me feel like I was weird. Though I wish I would have gave some witty response, and walked away like a confident mommy instead of walking quietly behind. I think that's what drives me the most crazy.
