egg retrieval experience?

I just started IVF process today. I'm most nervous about the egg retrieval, is it painful? Do they sedate you? What was the worst part of the whole process for you? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Congrats on starting!! First off once you know when your retrieval date is, start eating prunes or something of that nature. You'll understand later. I've had a lot of surgeries so I though it was going to be a breeze. I've read everywhere that it's cramp like pain after surgery, mine wasn't like that. I was severely bloated and I was in quite some pain. It was manageable, but a lot of people made it seem like it would be like bad period cramps, which I was use to. The first two days it was very hard to walk for me after. I'm 6 days out and back to normal. I started to feel a lot better after 3 or 4 days. I suppose it's just different for everyone. Drink a lot of water! ❤️

Hey.

I just had mine last week. I was awake so that wasn't great, but I survived. I was super glad I didn't have to go to work the day after (No school that day). Day of, my pain was about a 5. The next day was worse for me, more of a 6.

The reason it was worse was because of the pressure in my abdominal region. The bleeding stopped the day prior and only really happened in the bathroom.

Hey Zoobezoo,

My ER experience was not painful as I was put to sleep for the short 15 minute procedure. I was uncomfortable from the bloat but otherwise no stabbing pains or burns. You may spot a little but pain-wise, on a scale of 1-10, 1 being no pain and 10 being omg take me away pain, I'd say I was at a 1 both on the day of surgery and the day after.

I drank loads and loads of water and Gatorade and slept most of the day on surgery day.
