unprotected sex

Hey ladies so I got on my birthcontrol pills last week so today makes a week and ive been taking my pills at time and using condoms, my question is how long do I have to wait so I can stop using condoms ? My pamphlet says 7 days but i think i remember my doctor said 2 weeks and then I don't need backup just as long as I take my pill on time. (Yes i know that birthcontrol isnt 100% effective ) can someone possibly answer my question?
