Is it too soon to have sex

I've known this boy for 7 years. We recently went on our first date and we had chemistry. The tension was so thick you could cut it. 
We're going on our second date soon and we might have sex. 
We can't have a real relationship because he lives two hours away and is being sent to Hawaii at the end of August. (Army) And we both agreed long distance won't work. We're enjoying each other while we can though. 
Is it too soon to have sex? Is it a bad idea?
