how likely?

Im late so i took a sensitive test at 12dpo & it came back negative. I have no symptoms at alo i just took it because of my period being late. Is there a high chance it could've been a false negative? My last pregnancy it was able to pick up a positive but not this time so im not sure what's wrong. My cm was dry & now it's a slight dark yellow color idk if that's the start of my period since mostly i start with a brownish color sorry tmi
