How long does your baby nurse? Also other questions

Shell

My daughter only nurses for about 5ish minutes every time she eats. I'm just wondering if this is typical. I hear her gulping and swallowing, sometimes milk pours from the sides of her mouth.

She's always only needed to eat off of one breast but she was eating for 15 - 30 minutes in the first few weeks. I understand babies become more efficient at nursing but I just find it odd that it only takes a few minutes and then she's done, like lips sealed and won't take the breast for another 2 hours.

She has plenty of wet and dirty diapers so I'm not concerned about her not eating enough. I'm really wondering if she ate longer, maybe she could go longer in between feeds.

So basically my questions are...

How old is your baby?

How long does your baby nurse?

How often? And

If you pump, how many ounces does your baby eat?

You gals are lucky. My 6 week old nurses for about an hour total. At times it has been up to 70 minutes. I get so exhausted, I just grab formula after 60-70 minute sessions to make them end. :( I am told she will get more efficient at nursing, but right now it's exhausting. She eats every 3 hours. It's all we do!

ahh. I'm not the only one with a baby that likes to take his time. I've slowly have gotten him down to 45-50mins on average. i started massaging my breast while hes feeding on it and its helping.

My baby nurses every 2 hours throughout the day for about 10 minutes each time. Throughout the night she goes 5 hours and nurses for 15 minutes. She is 7 weeks old. When I pump I get around 3 ounces in a 8 minute session, she drink sometimes 1 ounce, sometimes all 3. Very seldom does she want more after three though

if they drink longer they will go longer between feedings, which is why i use a bottle when we go to bed so i know she drinks 3 ounces. and if she doesn't i try to get her on the boob until she is completely knocked out, usually takes 30 minutes to do so. but it doesnt bother me throughout the day

My baby is 15 days old. She nurses anywhere from 5-30 minutes. I supplement with formula as needed or pumped breast milk if I pump enough, 2 oz

Hey Hun mine is exactly like yours. His 5 weeks now and only feeds for an average of 5 minutes each time. If I'm lucky he can go for up to 25-30 minutes. I was a bit concerned from the start but his gaining weight and has regular wet/poppy diapers. I can hear him gulp a whole heap of milk with every feed and like you mine always has excess milk coming back out.Does yours throw up/vomite out milk after every feed? My boy does that and I wonder if thats normal...

Oh and he feeds every 2 hours but sometimes shorter like every hour. I only pump when I have excess milk.

My daughter is 7 weeks and she nurses for 5-10 minutes on each side but when she was younger it varied a lot more (like up to 30 minutes) and she also only ate from one side. Now she's hungrier so she wants both. I can tell she's a lot more efficient because she makes these chugging sounds when she's nursing lol

lol my 4 week old sounds like she chugs too. So cute! She widely varies her sessions. But always is just on one side until she is done if falls asleep.

Mine is the same way. He is 5 weeks and used to nurse for 10-25 minutes total (almost always half on each side). In the last week or two he has only been nursing for like 7-12 minutes total and only on one side. I can tell he his getting full because half the time he passes out satisfied and has been gaining weight consistently.

Also I do pump for 7-10 minutes at a time and if it has only been a couple hours he will eat 2-3oz and if it's been longer he will eat 3-4
