1st prenatal appt

My first prenatal appointment is Tuesday, I'll be 8.5 weeks. When I asked what to expect at this appointment, I was so disappointed to hear that they won't be doing an ultrasound til 11-12 weeks. This appointment is strictly for questions, prenatal labs? And culture tests... has anyone had their first appointment without seeing how baby is doing!?? Im hoping they at least check for the heartbeat??
