confused dating?? does he love me or not

This guy I've been talking to for a few months now we went to a party together last night, yes we were drinking and I stayed all night with him it was the best I was so happy, he said we are dating now and that he loves me which he has told me that he loves me before but I was drunk last time he told me I think he thinks that I don't remember it but I do. Anyways today I texted him and asked him a simple question I asked what are we? I figured he would say we are dating since that's all he said last night but instead he said I don't know, idk if I want a relationship. I said you could have told me before I got so attached to you he said yeah I'm sorry I like you and you're perfect. So nowI don't understand, does he love me or not!? My heart is broke..
