Which baby items are okay to get used?

One blessing/curse I've noticed about pregnancy is a lot of people come out of the woodwork to give you their old baby stuff which is AWESOME because it's all so expensive and temporary. As a first time mom (due 10/21) I'm having a lot of offers for everything from bottles, toys, pack n plays, car seats, changing pads, diaper genies and potties. But I also have a registry that I've worked hard to research and narrow down. What kind of products are great to nab used and what you stay away from used?? Thanks in advance!

I would never accept any items that involve safety. The main one, of course, is a car seat. You never know what it has been through and they are one time use (one accident and they no longer function sufficiently). I would also be hesitant to get a used crib or stroller but as long as you inspect them thoroughly that's probably fine. As long as you like the items, take what you can get ! That leaves you much more room to ask for other things you want at your shower or to buy on your own. Things like a swing or glider are great used because you only use them for a few months.

Basically everything except car seat, unless it's still in perfect condition, never been dropped or in an accident, hasn't been recalled, and hasn't expired. Everything else is really just preference if you want it new or used.

We added everything to our registry, but are still accepting used items. If we receive the item at baby shower, then we'll just have 2 of them.

You are not supposed to use a used car seat or mattress anything other than that should be okay. If getting bottles used  replace the nipples.

We have received a couple of old car seats and know they are outside of the safe use limits. However, we don't intend to actually use them for the baby. The plan is to exchange them for a discount. If you take an old car seat to Babies R Us, you can get a discount on a brand new seat. I'm just not sure if it's an all the time thing or if it only happens 1-2 times a year.

I bought used clothing, pack and plays (cleaned them really good) toys, bouncer, swing, changing pad and covers. Just made sure to wash all fabric. I would NOT buy a used car seat, cloth diapers, bottles, pacifiers.

I bought my car seat and stroller new because I refused to get used ones. I got a crib and mattress used from a close friend and only because her son slept on it twice the whole time they had it.

Almost everything I needed for my home I got new because I have been very fortunate to have the support of my huge family, but the stuff that my son will be using at Grammy and grandpa's house was used. Handed down from my baby cousin.

I feel like as long as its coming from a reliable place, everything but the car seat could be used.

I am in the same boat. I'm a first time mom. We have been given TONS of clothes, bibs and burp clothes. I tossed the ones that looked used or worn. I also gave away a changing table pad to GoodWill that we received. The main stuff I'm keeping are the Fisher Price Bouncer, a MamaRoo and a Halo Bassinet. I like that we got a bunch of free stuff, but I kinda want my baby to have his own new things too. I would gladly accept a pack'n'play, but would not a car seat. I'd be too paranoid it was worn in places I can't see and would protect the baby.  Haha.

From the list you gave I'd only take the pack n play. The toys are fine but your not going to need them for awhile & I personally hate clutter.

I'd add bottles. I accepted some secondhand bottles but sterilized them and bought brand new nipples.
