Bi-Racial Hair Care Tips fo My Little Boy?

Question

My son is half black, half white and I just have no idea how to manage his hair. It kinks up in the back, but he has long loose curls around  his hair line. My son HATES when I attempt to detangle the knots in his hair, even after a generous amount of detangler.

What kind of products can I use? His hair gets dry in some spots, but not others. Half frizzy, but sometimes not. Lol, seriously his hair is all over the place.  Tips?

How often are you washing it? You may want to try a spray bottle with some water and a little coconut oil and spritz it prior to trying to do anything to it. It's hard to tell not seeing him or feeling the hair but you definitely only want to try to comb it when wet. If it tends to get dry you can try some coconut oil. There are a lot of natural hair care products for kids. I don't have any yet so haven't used them but I know a lot of moms like Shea moisture baby. Cantu also has a pretty light cream. But try the spritzing/coconut oil first.

Pink oil moisturizer eventually dry the hair out. I agree with using coconut oil. His hair is naturally going to kink up a little, his hair looks too fine & short to cornrow, you can try using a soft brush before using the wide tooth comb?

He gets a bath every other night, but on Sunday nights I shampoo and condition. I just use my hair products on shampoo night. I can't think of the name, but it's an Argan oil product.

When I'm working on the knots, I use Cantu's detangler amd use a wide tooth comb. I don't use a product on him daily as I just couldn't figure what to use. I used to use a pink oil moisturizer, but I found that it seemed sort of heavy.

I hadn't thought about a daily spritz solution. The coconut idea seems manageable certainly - thanks. Here's a pic of his curls, wet and dry.

I have naturally curly hair. I use - 7 seconds by Unite (which is a vegan product) leave in conditioner, so it will be gentle for kids. This product is absolutely amazing. I've been using it for the past two years, this is one product I can't go without!! Good luck:)

I have loose curls. And I usually wet my hair then detangle with a brush. A brush with teeth. After detangling. I have a mixture of 2 parts water 1 part conditioner. (Coconut conditioner) and spray that all over. Set till damp. Than put in coconut oil on the root and massage there than on the ends to maintain hair. Then loosely comb out his hair. I do that and it works like a charm.
