Penile Torsion

My 3 week old son has penile torsion. His urethra goes side to side rather than up and down- it's like his penis was rotated on it's axis, 90 degrees to the left. I feel terrible, and I'm not sure how to go about this. His doctor says it's a non-issue, it doesn't effect his ability to pee, and shouldn't cause issues later in life, but cosmetically I don't want him to be made fun of and I'm not sure if potty training will be easy (he seems to pee to the side rather than down and forward). They can do surgery after 6 months of age, but I'm really torn because it's not medically necessary (just more for cosmetics and convenience-like with peeing). Has anyone else had this issue with one of their sons?
