sleeping with a tampon in

Who all does this? It scares me to death but I'm really considering it because my hips get very easily sore and laying on my sides are the only way I won't leak when I have a pad on and I just can't take the pain from having to lay that way anymore. Is it safe to do this? Tss freaks me out so much
