8 week ultra sound

Hi everyone in Canada! What has your experience been like with your 8 week ultrasound? I was expecting to hear the heartbeat and see a picture of the little jelly bean and for my husband to be by my side. But he wasn't allowed in the room and I didn't get to experience any of that. The technician was only there to gather the information and send it to my doctor to review with me. I've heard other women talk about hearing the heartbeat at 8 weeks on nurture so I'm not sure if that's a US thing or differs between provinces. Was kinda bummed out this morning.
