Unexpected accidents, no money *RANT*

So today, my husband was out shooting a co2 powered BB gun while he was taking the dogs out. One of them ricocheted and hit one of our dogs in the eye, so the BB is lodged in his eye. My husband feels awful about it, but it was an accident. I called an emergency vet clinic and asked if there was a way I could bring him in and do payments, because, unfortunately I wasn't expecting this to happen. We literally only have like $120 to our name. They said no, and to just see him was 170. I called everywhere, and no one wanted to take payments, but said I could apply for care credit and would be approved. Well, I wasnt. So we took him to a vet clinic, they can't remove the BB. Was told that he has as much of a chance of losing sight in that eye as he does keeping it. We got steroids and another medicine for his eye. Hoping for the best. It just sucks when unexpected things happen and you have no money.
