I used pads for a month and then started using tampons. Don't understand what there is to be afraid of.

Yes, sadly. I had just read about a girl getting TSS who ended up getting paralized from the waist down and a week later I got my first period so I used a pad for the longest time, and one day I started NY period at school and I had nothing but a tampon (I carried them for my friends) so I had to pull my big girl pants on and use a tampon. It actually wasn't as scary as I thought. It doesn't really hurt when u put it in, but it does feel weird. And it will hurt when ur taking it out if it is dry

Yes and I didn't use them for years until high school.. then I was mad that I hadn't used them sooner. So much more comfy and don't have to deal with stinky blood like you're basically wearing a diaper.
