I need some advice

A guy and I used to date (never went official) and we also never slept together either. We have known each other for 4 years. 3 out of the 4 years we both felt a connection but, never initiated anything until last year. He told me that he loved me and we went on a few dates after that. He then distanced himself, ignored my texts if I sent him one and, also ignored my text when I told him my feelings about him and all the hopes that I had of him and I. A month or so later, I texted him telling him that even if there isn't anymore than friends, I want a friendship with him and he said he was fine with that. I sent him a playful cat filter on Snapchat last night (as friends do) he then sent me one back with a selfie of him telling me "damn you're so beautiful" and then asked if I wanted to go out today (tonight). I feel just really confused because I haven't stopped having feelings for him. Do you think I'm getting played? Or maybe he really does love me?
