baby monitor necessary?

Does anyone use just a security camera that connects to your phone instead of an actual monitor? 
If so, please let me know which kind.

I've used the Nest camera, but I much prefer ones that don't connect to the internet. The Nest app always lags right when I want to see baby. It lags if more than one person is watching. It lags if I walk through an area in the house that the wifi isn't as strong. They are also more likely to be hacked by strangers and that terrifies me. I've also used the Samsung video monitor and much prefer it. It tells the temperature in the nursery, you can move the camera, it never lags, and the picture is more crisp. The only reason I would suggest one that goes over the Internet is if you plan to have a nanny or someone you want to keep an eye on while you're not home.

I have that. We have the swann security cameras on our house and a swannsmart camera as our daughter's crib cam. It links to an app on our phones. I absolutely love it! A friend gave it to us as a gift because she loved it for her kids. I believe they have them in the baby monitor section at stores.
