is it wrong if I don't give my daughter her fathers last night?

I know it's a "traditional" thing but I've always said that I would give my first kid, girl/boy my last name. Now that I'm having my daughter, I really want to give her my last name. Everybody keeps telling me she'll be upset or ask questions one day on why she doesn't have her dads last name and about keeping it "traditional"

It depends on the situation with the father. And if he's okay with it. I thought of hyphenating my sons last name and my dad really wanted me to do it and my boyfriend was pissed. He said that's kind of a low blow because its just like a pride thing to him for his son or if we have a daughter someday to have his last name, since he is the father. Cause like I have a stronger connection with the baby since I'm carrying him and he doesn't get all that stuff so he at least wants like something. But that's just his view on it. Which is fine with me, it doesn't matter to me really. So just something to discuses with him. If he's not really in the picture then yeah I'd do what you want.

If y'all are in a good healthy relationship With the potential of getting married one day then it doesn't make sense to me. Even if y'all aren't together and he's a good dad then it doesn't make sense to me And if I was her dad I'd raise hell. I love my daddy and I'd be mad at my mom if she hadn't given me his name for the sole reason of "wanting me to have hers" maybe do a hyphenated name if your torn. I love my family name so I gave my daughter my name and her dads name.

If you're with the father, talk to him about it. My husband knows how much my last name means to me and although he was initially super traditional and has a lot of pride in his last name, too, he understood why I have pride in my name. He's white and I'm Asian, so we ended up compromising when we got married and I hyphenated my name. (This was after multiple conversations, though. Nothing happens overnight!) When we got pregnant, I assumed we'd just give the baby his name, but he suggested that the baby go by the hyphenated name! Don't go by what others say or think. They'll have plenty of opinions about everything.
