is this normal??

Question

I went to my first midwife appointment today! It was great but she couldn't get the heartbeat on Doppler. I'm 9w5d. She did do  a quick ultrasound and that was good but just wondering at what point the Doppler will pick up the heartbeat and if any of you had experienced this!

I had a prenatal appointment last week at 11 weeks and 5 days. They found beans heart beat after a few minutes. Went today for a follow up because I was admitted to the hospital for hyperemesis last week, they couldn't find beans heart beat. I'm 12 weeks 6 days today. 
Ultrasound showed bean flopping around and kicking. Dr said he/she was being a wiggle worm.

My midwife doesn't do heartbeat until 16 weeks to save any panicking as it can be tricky to find.

My OB had a hard time finding it at 11 weeks exactly. Found it but it took a long time

I am 10weeks 1 day and today was the first time I could hear baby on my at home Doppler. I tried and tried to find it all last week with no success. I think in the beginning that just days can make a difference size wise, so baby might just be a bit too small to hear.

I had mine yesterday too, at 10w2d and it took her a while to find it on the doppler as well, but it was there! I think it's hard bc baby is so small and can be hiding, possibly way deep inside, and the doppler waves only go so far. Once the baby is bigger, it's easier to pick up. That was my experience with my first two pregnancies as well.

My previous OB didn't rely on a Doppler until 14 weeks when the baby was bigger. It's so tiny even 10 weeks that many doctors and midwives won't use them before then.

I am 10 weeks 4 days today and they used the Doppler at my doctor appointment. Took about 20 seconds to find it but once she found it it came through pretty clear. As others have said, I do think it depends on the position of the baby in the uterus.

It's too early. I tried 9 weeks 4 days and nothing. Tried 10 week and baby must have been in different position and it was very faint one. Now as I am further along I can hear it ;) usually they don't check it later than 16 weeks

I was 9 weeks when they tried the Doppler on me, and couldn't find anything! I was told not to panic that it's normal and that we should be able to hear the heartbeat on the Doppler around 12 weeks.

I'm curious too! I remember I could last pregnancy on my Doppler at 10 weeks
