Forced to say hello

I think my father is a weirdo for about 100 reasons, but one is that if you do not say hello to him the first time you see him EVERY DAY he gets extremely upset and basically calls me names. 
 
No matter if he's busy, I'm busy, we aren't having a conversation, if I just pass by him... whatever. 
 
Do you think it's reasonable to be verbally attacked for not acknowledging his presence at all times?
