Too harsh?

My bf and I have 2 kids together ages 1 n 3.5 and he is very lazy, I mean VERY lazy. I try so hard to get him to do things with us but he doesn't; he doesn't understand how much it hurts telling our son his dad didn't want to go when he asks where he is at and seeing the disappointment on his face he looks up to him so much.
His daughter just turned 1 today and he didn't even come see her because he is an hr away right now and was worried about gas(we have plenty of money)so he said we will do something this weekend so I had to do the cake and presents.
I sent him this pic and this is the response I get I feel bad but is all the truth😞

Some times you have to be harsh. Guys can't take hints and you're the advocate for your children. I would've done it too.

Nope, not too harsh. The sad truth is he won't be able to turn back time and get this time with his kids back. That's his choice though, and he'll have to live with it.
