Internal Ultrasound for 20 week scan?

Ladies,

I have been refusing all internal ultrasounds as my body doesn't do well with them. But, my Dr. wants me to get one for my 20 week scan because it's clearer. She is worried about my cervix and said that's the best way to see it...

Should I refuse it or get it? Appointment is tomorrow!!!

Get it. That's an important scan! You could have a short cervix or your cervix could be funneling and lead to preterm labor. They need to know if it's okay or not so they can potentially save baby if he/she is trying to escape early!

I am personally so thankful that they did an internal scan at my 20 week ultrasound.  Saved my baby's life.  Without that internal scan they wouldn't have known I have vasa previa and my baby would highly likely died at birth.  Now knowing about it early we can plan for having a c-section before my labor starts since that is what would have caused the life threatening issues.  It is not likely at all that you would have this particular issue as it is a rare condition (only 1 in 3000 pregnancies), but I just thought I would mention that those scans are so helpful for finding that kind of things - or hopefully just ruling out those kind of problems so you can have peace of mind 😊

If your worried about it hurting the baby it won't. Plus they need to check your cervix to make sure it's not thinning. I had it done and it feel uncomfortable but it's over in a min
