13 week scan and Harmony Test

Becc

So at the 12 week mark after the bloods and scan were completed, we got the disappointing news that I have a high risk of Downs Syndrome. It doesn't run in either of mine or Kurts families so we didn't know where it came from. Luckily, I only had a 1 in 298 chance, but because it's below 300 mark, which is the national standard in Australia, I have to go through the motions of tests.

Because I had such a low chance of it having DS I decided on the Harmony test instead of the invasive Amniotic Fluid test. There's just too many risks with the invasive test! If I had a higher chance, like 1 in 20, I would have it done, but it's just not worth the risk. So now the waiting game is on for the blood results next week or the week after! But I'm fairly certain that all will be fine.

I'm 13 weeks today and so the doctor wanted to make sure everything looked good before we went ahead with the bloods which it all did. And then as he was looking at the baby's legs, he said "okay here's one leg, and the other.. oh and uh yeah I don't think that's the umbilical cord in the middle there! But it's too early to say so I'll just let you guys enjoy the guessing game until the test comes back!"

I think I'll be seeing blue very soon! But my partner doesn't want to get excited until it's confirmed, he's hoping for a little girl. Don't get me wrong, we will be ridiculously happy regardless of the gender as long as it's healthy! But it sure is exciting! What does everyone else think?
