Do you feel parents are not held accountability much for their children's poor behavior?

Personally, I think it's just easier to blame the parents, but as parents, we need to start helping our kids hold themselves accountable for their actions as so many kids nowadays are conditioned to believe that if they make a bad decision, then it's their parents fault. Everything is always the parents fault, or someone else's fault, but it couldn't be more farther from the truth. The truth is, in general; most parents are doing the best that they can.

This is so situational dependant. A child addicted to an iPad, maybe, but a child with autism addicted to an iPad, no. A screaming kid in the store, maybe if the parents have made zero effort on parenting but then again, how do you as a stranger looking in know what their day/week/month looks like?  Also, as a foster mom I get looks ALL the time... my kiddos have trauma and trauma SUCKS not to mention FAS and lack of impulse control ...

In short, I pray parents learn about child development and age appropriate strategies to help difficultities and parental coping but unless you have a one on one relationship and knowledge yourself - not just what mama taught ya- then keep your judgements to yourself.

I think it depends on the situation. But there are definitely parents out there who take zero responsibility for their kids behavior and let them run wild.

From a teachers perspective, I'd love some parents to be invisible for an hour, and come and see how their wee darlings behave in class, then come and have a chat about who they think is responsible. Sure as hell ain't me!!!!

It depends. If the child is suffering from something that causes them to be out of control (like ADHD), then it's not either of their faults. However, many parents lack accountability for their children's shitty behavior. "My kid is screaming, let me go scream at him and whip his ass for it." Oh the logic.

in general, sure. but if i ever see a child "out of the ordinary" so to speak, or just not doing something right, my mind instantly goes to the parents and what the fuck they're doing.

I think a large amount of parents don't understand how behavior works and how to modify behavior. I'm not sure if I would place that lack of understanding on the parents though. I strongly believe there should be free classes available that teach how to understand and modify behavior.

It obviously depends on the situation, but I find that yes a lot of times parents are not held accountable in places where they should be. I think accountability when it comes to parenting is important and I think that a lot of parents fail to take ownership of the part they play in their child's behavior. If their child is behaving a certain way their immediate response needs to stop being blame friends or blame society it should start with self assasment as parents and then you can point fingers after but to not take responsibility is flawed
