Swimming will induce labor? Huh?

So I am 33 weeks with twins and I live in Florida. Today I went swimming at my folks place with my almost 4 year old. Has a great day floating and did some light swimming. It was a nice way to beat the heat. I posted a photo of me and my girl at the pool on FB. Well tonight I got a private message from a coworker saying,  "you do know swimming will induce labor at this point right?" I know her concern stems from her having not one but two miscarriages after 30 weeks, which I guess would be called a stillbirth. So I didn't jump up in arms and get super defensive, she just cares. But it got me wondering.....has anyone else heard this?

I haven't heard of it at all . As long as you don't overdo yourself swimming trying to be Michael phelps I'm sure you're fine .

Nope. I live in Florida too and went swimming no issues. Getting dehydrated is bad though and it's easy to forget to drink water while you're in the water. Otherwise it's fine.

I was curious too so I asked my parents. They said this is true of any physical activity. My mom went into labor because they went walking at the zoo. Their doctor told them to do something physical to induce labor. I doubt it does if you barely do any actual swimming though! I know I just float and stand which isn't "activity" haha

She's wrong. We have a pool in my apartment and my doctor told me to swim as often as I would like because it's great exercise while pregnant. I know people who run marathons while pregnant.

Helloooo! I'm from Florida too. Well hun, I come from a Hispanic background and my mom have always told me that once you get pregnant you shouldn't go to the beach (swimming has nothing to do with it ) the thing is that beaches waves have strong energy which can induce labor. My mom have told me to that the pool is completely fine... because the pool doesn't have the waves. Once again, swimming doesn't have nothing to do with it it's just the waves of the ocean.

I don't know if it is true or not, but is better to be safe than sorry. Everyone have different opinions which I respect them all.... which that is why when I go to the beach while pregnant I only wet my feet. I hope this helps.

If you haven't gotten any type of cramp nor pain I believe that you and your baby are completely fine because what brings labor early are the energy of the ocean weaves. Good luck! And remember his are just old tales.

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and my doctor encourages me to swim to get rid of back pain. I would think as long as your not swimming major laps 😂 you'd be fine. Babies are going to come when they want to come

I wouldn't worry.swimming while pregnant is great and can help with swelling issues and all the discomforts of having a mini human inside you. It can help the baby get into a better position for birth though.

Definitely not true! I lap swim for 30-45 mins 3x a week (34 weeks now) and haven't had any issues.

I wish it would induce labour. I've been swimming laps the last couple months of my pregnancy to stay active (cleared by my
doctor of course) and here I am just over 40 weeks and my cervix is still closed and high. Ugh 😩
