is anyone thinking about getting a doula?

I've heard great things about hypno birthing and wanted to try going natural with this pregnancy. Since I don't have much support here (friends and family are far) I thought a doula would be a great way to help me get on track and getting emotional support as well.

Is anyone thinking about getting a doula? What are your reasons and how are you picking them?

I'm definitely getting a doula. Luckily one of my best friends from college is a midwife/nurse practitioner and another is a neonatal nurse so they have made some referrals for me. A lot of doulas will waive or scale back fees if money is an issue. Doula international is a great resource. Congratulations ladies!

I would love a doula but I don't think we can afford it right now and I know my insurance will not cover it. I birth at a free standing birth center and there are always student midwives there assisting the main midwife on call, plus I have a couple of close friends and hubby with me anyways, so I feel comfortable without one.

Sounds like if you go with a doula in training, it'll be less expensive and you might have an actual doula with you as well. I wanted to do a teaching hospital for my delivery but I also wanted a natural, water birth. So this might be my happy medium.

I'd like to get a doula. My insurance doesn't cover it or anything so the search for one is wide open which makes me nervous. My friend's hospital provided her with a doula and she is always talking about how she'd give birth every month if she could haha
