IUI or not?

Has anyone ever decided to skip IUI and go straight to IVF? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to try IUI or not since the success rate is not that great.

If I could go back in time, I would skip iui. The cost 4 failed iuis would have paid for 1/2 of my ivf! I just don't have much faith in iui!

I think it totally depends on the issues you are facing fertility wise, we have a v low sperm count/motility so been advised IUI isn't for us so ICSI/IVF straight away 🤞🏽

I don't wish I didn't try it because I'm willing to try anything. But after 4 failed iui's my husband and I are taking a break from fertility treatments before moving forward with IVF. Between all the meds, appointments and heartbreak it's definitely emotionally draining.

It's hard. Looking back, the IUIs (which all failed) prepared me for IVF. But I had the luxury of good insurance. Now with hindsight I'd do one IUI and then move on.if you don't respond well for the first IVF you can always downgrade to an IUI so the cycle isn't "wasted."

We're starting our first round of iui this cycle.  I thought they would send us straight to Ivf because the issue was with morphology but our Dr said iui would be a better place to start and to be honest I'm relieved.  If your Dr thinks you should try iui than it's worth a shot.  Ivf is a lot more involved and expensive.

I did IUI with IVF medications and got pregnant on the second try. My insurance would pay for 3 IUI "treatments".

I got pregnant with my first IUI. Success rate depends on many factors. Ultimately it is your decision.

My situation was hypothyroidism and PCOS for me and mild male factor for my husband. I wanted 'less invasive' so tried IUI twice before moving to IVF which worked (I'm due Nov 2017). I agree with others it definitely is a great learning tool and prepares you for IVF. Less downtime involved, less money, etc. That being said it didn't get me a result so I wouldn't do it again. I don't regret doing it though.... It is such a personal choice! My husband on the other hand thinks it was a total waste of time and that we were told 20% success rate when it was actually far less due to the issues on both sides. Good luck to you!

I got pregnant with second iui, clomid, trigger shot and progesterone supplements on the 2nd round with both pregnancies. I have a 20 month old and currently 10 weeks pregnant. With my insurance we had to have 3 failed iuis before they covered the cost of ivf. Luckily, we didn't have to go that route. If your insurance won't cover, I would just explain your concerns to your doctor and see what he/she thinks would be the most successful option. Hopefully  the first round works! Good luck mama!

I think it would depend on your fertility situation (ie male factor or pcos etc). I had success with iui personally. Some people are told to jump straight to IVF.
