None of that matters to me because I'm in love with a wonderful person. He's broke and hasn't finished college yet but he loves me. We could care less about social standing, as long as we respect each other.

I have a bachelors degree and my SO is still getting his associates. I think it bothers him more. It doesn't bother me at all.

I come from a middle/upper middle class family and my boyfriend was a foster child. So I guess you could say finically and socially we're from very different worlds. But he's an amazing man. His background doesn't bother me at all because it helped make him who he is today, just as my background made me who I am. We do very well together and I love him to pieces. Honestly, financially he'll do better than I will. He's studying to be an engineer and I'm in vet school- statistically he'll make about double what I'll ever make. But that doesnt matter to me at all. Money and social standing isn't a problem to me at all.

Education though is important to me. I couldn't be with someone that didn't hold eduction as importantly as I do. We'd be too different that way and it'd cause issues when raising kids. I want a professional to be my partner because I want someone who understands the value of education and someone that can bring in an income that is somewhat similar to my own (it could be more or less, but in a similar ball park). I don't want to support my husband financially just as I don't want him to support me that way- I want an equal partner in that way (and every other way). At the end of the day my boyfriend will have his bachelors of engineering and I'll have my doctorate of veterinary medicine and hopefully a board certification- I'll be more educated than he will be. But we're still at a similar level.

I dont think we should marry for money but we do have to step up our standards. We dont have to settle. The guy doesnt have to be rich but at least have some sort of direction and stability. But of course it depends on the type of guy you are looking for.... some girls like puppies that dont have nothing going for them so they can follow after her wherever. I admire a man who is at least grounded, not particularly rich but financially stable, genuine and socially comfortable in his own skin. I tried the opposite and we organically grew apart...

I never real thought about because I feel in love with the person. But when the question is asked and thought about, I guess I may have always had slightly higher standards.

As in my boyfriend comes from a military family with not a lot of money (when I always saw myself dating a more upper class guy) 
He often wears the same pair of shorts or jeans more than once a week for the simple fact that he doesn't have any others. 
He works hard for what he has 
He isn't Zac efron hot or anything like that, ripped abs etc 
But he cares about his body and I think he's v attractive.

So ig I'd say yes that if I looked at what my ideal man was before I started dating by current bf, then yes I am dating under my standards. But I'd also never want anyone else

My bf and I have been dating for over a year now, he is my best friend . When we first started dating he had no car no job and no money. We could barely stay away from each other I would see him everyday even multiple times a day. I love him so much I decided to just stick it out with him despite what my family said about him ( my mom told me he would never be able to take care of me financially and that we're gonna be living in the hood or some hut somewhere - and my brother and Dad didn't like him either) it broke my heart. I stayed with him regardless. Now he has a job and is trying to find his second and saving for a car , next our place because we will be moving in together . I am so happy I stayed I love this man to death.
