Do you need a period before clomid cycle?

Question

Going for a scan today to see if I have a cyst and I read if you don't you can try clomid for pcos and TTC but I was wondering do you have to have a period before a cycle of clomid as my period hasn't shown it's a month late and I was going to ask for clomid if all is fine.

From what my doctor told me , you will need a period ; have you done an HSG to show if your tubes are open yet ?? Also , I have cyst and a closed tube and my doc is still recommending Clomid as a first step . So I wouldn't count cysts out .

You have to take it during your period so you will need a period to take it if that makes sense.

I haven't got a cyst and my ovaries are measuring normal. 
I'll talk to my dr Thursday. The scan wasn't based on TTC and clomid purposes I have a lot of pain and that's why I was tested but I thought I'd ask anyway.
