viable pregnancy?

Had anyone had an early ultrasound around 4 weeks to check if the pregnancy is viable or not? How can they tell based on the ultrasound results???

You have to be patient, I had an ultrasound at week 4 + 6 days and only the sac was visible, then I had two blood tests to check hcg levels to confirm pregnancy but they didn't double as they were supposed to. One week later a second ultrasound at week 6 confirmed an embryo with a heartbeat. Hope this info helps.

Prior to 6 weeks doctors rely more on blood work. After 6 weeks, when a heartbeat can be identified, ultrasounds are more reliable. Once a heartbeat has been identified, the chances of miscarriage greatly reduces and will continue to reduce as the pregnancy progresses.

We had an ultrasound early because we had high hcg numbers but they weren't progressing as fast as they should. Ended up being a non-viable, ectopic pregnancy. They did the ultrasound to see if they could find anything in the uterus and they couldn't around 4 weeks so we had to wait another week and repeat. We had to do that until my hcg got over 1200, and when they couldn't find anything in my uterus they assumed it was ectopic. So they will check if you have high numbers and do have symptoms or are worried for other reasons.

A 4 week ultrasound can't tell if a pregnancy is viable or not. It can make sure it's in your uterus (possibly) but typically that early if you can see a sac at all it's empty at that point.

***UPDATE**** i went to my dr regarding the results of my ultrasound.. so i had the ultrasound when i was exactly 4 weeks and according to the technician, they saw nothing.. 😭😭😭 and according to my dr... this pregnancy is not going well.. 😭😭😭 i tried not to cry my eyes out but i cant help it.. i dont know how or what to feel.. no matter what i do i keep getting negative remarks.. so now my dr tooks my hcg level today and another one after a week to see if the pregnancy is progressing the way it should... sigghhhhh... cant believe im back to where i started last yr.. 😭😭😭😭😭 thank you by the way to everyone who replied back.. i appreciate every comment made 😘😘

I had a scan at 4 weeks to make sure it wasn't an ectopic pregnancy. Had another one week 6 that showed a heartbeat this time but I know some women show later

You won't see anything on a 4 week ultrasound. You'll get a heartbeat around 7 weeks.

You cant see anything on ultrasound at 4 weeks. A far better indicator of whether or not it's going to viable at that gestation would be beta hcg blood tests done 48hrs apart.

I did, but they made me come back for another US at 8 weeks to check again.  Basically, she checked to make sure all of the correct structures were there and for a strong heart beat.  Heart beat wasn't where it should be at 5 weeks, so that's why I had to go back.

I had bloodwork drawn at that time and then a week later they had me come in at 5w2d to be sure I had a viable pregnancy. A viable pregnancy and a viable baby, from my understanding, are two different things. A viable pregnancy would be a pregnancy that's not ectopic and is properly moving along or at least that's how my OB worded it to me. I'll share my 5 week one with you. You can see the gestational sac and yolk sac. If it's ectopic you may have a good blood test but they can tell by US if it's a viable pregnancy or not. The baby won't officially be viable until around 24 weeks, at least that's what my OB office goes by.
