Car Accident and House Fire Same Weekend

🖤J.🖤
We are finally home but I had to share this story. I'm 6 months pregnant and was vacationing three hours from home with my parents and family friends. My husband and I left on our own Saturday morning to tour a nearby town and halfway there were in an accident going 60 miles an hour. Speed was not a factor. It was 10:30 in the morning with sunny skies and no alcohol was involved. I won't get into what actually happened but it was definitely a freak accident. The car hit my side and all my airbags were deployed. Our car did a 180. My husband had to pry my door open to get me out and I was taken by ambulance. Our unborn son is okay and I have a follow up appt with my OB now that I'm home tomorrow. My husband is fine but feels awful and guilty and is really taking things hard as it was him at fault and the impact was on my side. The ER staff were amazing and even gave us a little Lego blue race car to "commemorate his first ER trip". I'm very bruised up and my neck is stiff but I'm very lucky I walked away let alone our little boy is okay. Back at the vacation house the next night (last night) all 12 of us were on the bottom floor of the house and my moms friend went up to take towels out of the dryer. She started screaming and it turns out the dryer caught on fire. 911 had to be called and the guys got it out before the fire company showed up but the smoke was insane. All 12 of us had to sleep in the rec room downstairs that night. Had she waited until the intermission of the Hockey game, there was a chance the house could have gone up and we could have lost all our belongings as they were in the third floor loft...not to mention how lucky we were as we weren't sleeping and not realizing the house was on fire. (We are very unhappy renters but I won't get into the logistics other than to say the extinguisher they had there was expired and didn't work so we had to run to the neighbors and use theirs and the smoke detectors on the second and third floor didn't go off until the about ten minutes into the guys working to put out the fire and we had already called 911.) I stayed outside and waved down the fire trucks along with most of the other women. I just couldn't believe this had happened in 48 hours on vacation. I'm posting this to say that as awful as it all sounds, both situations could have ended very tragically. Never take things for granted...and if you're renting a house check to make sure fire detectors and extinguishers are up to date and working. I'm glad to be home. It felt like we were having a survival weekend. 👀😳 My son has hopefully experienced enough emergencies before he's born to last him a lifetime.
Also...a few months ago someone was looking for a car and I showed them my 2015 Taurus. This is the car we wrecked and if we find it is totaled, I'll be getting another exactly the same. I may be bruised from the airbags and a little sore from being jerked around but this car held up like a freaking tank.
