how does your baby sleep?

I'm a FTM mom and expecting my baby any day now. I'm extremely nervous about her sleeping though. I guess my main question is do you allow your baby to sleep through the night when they're swaddled? Or do you just let them sleep completely free? Swaddling scares me sometimes. I know I'm probably over reacting but the tightness makes me feel like they're going to suffocate or something & then not having them swaddled makes me feel like they're going to be cold ): especially because our room is in the lowest level of our house where it tends to be a little cooler.

My daughter LOVED her swaddle, and we didn't break her out of it until she was almost 6 months! Some babies need it, others don't. If your baby hates it, you can always use sleep sacks or warm, fleece sleepers. Look into why you should always keep their legs free though if you do end up swaddling your little one. It can cause hip dysplasia. Good luck! 😊

My son is 10 weeks old and has slept swaddled from day 1. Swaddling actually reduces the risk of SIDS up until the baby is old enough to roll at which point you shouldn't be swaddling anyways. He's been sleeping through the night since 7 weeks. It's Winter here so the swaddle does help keep him warm. There's also different types of swaddles that you might be more comfortable with like the Velcro ones and the Love to Dream style swaddles that let them have their hands up. I've used both those styles and traditional swaddling with the receiving blanket - all three are safe but the hands up one seems safest and the Velcro one helps him sleep best.

Both options have their pros and cons though. A big benefit of not swaddling is that you won't have to deal with transitioning out of swaddles once they can roll (although there are 50/50 transition swaddles with removable arms to help the process).

We swaddled tight until she started rolling around 3 months. Mine slept in a rock and play those months which kept her on her back and upright. It made me feel comfortable.

My baby was swaddled in the hospital and as soon as we got home we let him sleep freely and now he hates being swaddled. As to being cold i always have him with a long sleeve. Lately he hasnt been wearing long sleeve since its been so hot here... but as my mom told me, if he's cold he's gonna cry.
