step daughter
So I have the most wonderful step daughter who will be 9 this August. I love her like she was my own. The problem is that she doesn't live with us yet (we are working on it) and she has been getting into a lot of trouble. There is a strong history of serious mental illness in my husbands mothers family. (For example: scitzofrenia, manic bipolar, etc.) she also has been showing lack of empathy at all and has hurt little animals even without caring. When it comes to our big dog, she loves him and even has a very healthy respect for him since if she did hurt him he would protect himself (at least she thinks so, he is a big baby) she has two siblings from her mom (total of 3 baby daddies) but doesn't see them ever because her mom rarely will get her. (My munchkin lives with my in laws). I'm nervous because this is our first baby (she doesn't know yet) and I'm scared to let it share her room. I mean, I thought about a video monitor, but I feel like I would be up all night nervous that something would happen.
Back story: my husband is a former/recovering heroin addict. My mother in law has had munchkin since she was a year and a half because the mom just handed her over and my husband was using at the time. Praise the Lord, he is clean. But my mother in law still is SUPER protective and because of all of munchkins problems she wants her to have as much routine as possible. (I think she just needs her dad.) thus the reason we are working on getting her.
Anyways, any advice?
