Is it safe to try and maintain/lose a little weight when pregnant ?

I have only gained nearly 8 lbs at almost 21 weeks. My baby is measuring above average. Having this baby has actually made me eat healthier, just because my cravings have all been healthy foods! I haven't gorged on sweets; if I crave it, I have a little bit and then I'm done. My major food aversions have been to cheeseburgers and other heavy greasy foods. My weight has maintained between my 16 and 20 week appointment and my doctor didn't say anything about it

If you're cutting out junk food and eating plenty of healthy food and happen to lose or not gain its okay (unless you're already under weight). But it's not good to do any kind of calorie restriction or cutting out food groups etc.

I think it depends on your body. I'm 25 weeks and gained 10 lbs so far. I lose a pound or two between appts but it's because I'm following my low carb diet a lot more closely. I could stand to lose some weight but if you are underweight already, it might be a bad thing to lose.

It depends on your current weight and body. I would talk to your dr. My sister in law has dwarfism and was slightly over weight going into her 2nd pregnancy. The dr. Wanted her to loose weight in her 1st trimester, so she could gain it back in the 2nd & 3rd and maintain her same weight overall, as to not put extra strain on her knees and legs.

As long as you are getting what you need nutritionally and aren't working out harder than you were prior to pregnancy.
