Question

Child care teachers. I'm talking newborns through age 4. What should they make an hour??
(Fully certified teacher that is)

If we want high quality early child educators we should be paying them a salary similar to what teachers make. I taught at a preschool before becoming a high school teacher and some days the babies were definitely harder to manage than the teenagers. We should have universal pre-k in America and pay ECE teachers a livable salary.

Ideally? I'd say $17/hr or more. But logically? They can't get paid that much unless they're like a personal nanny, or work in a rich area. To even pay employees the crappy wages they get, places around here charge around $350/week. To raise it per person, per hour would add another $200/week (and that's just another $5 per hour) per employee. That would go back on the people who bring kids there, when (in my area) a lot of people struggle to pay that and bills already, so they couldn't really afford to keep their kids there.
