When is the First Ultrasound?

Question

Does everyone get an ultrasound at their first/8 week appointment? I have heard mixed responses - only of you are at risk? (which I am not) But then so many women I know had ultrasounds at 8 weeks and were not at risk. My first appointment is in 3 days and I just want to know if I will get to see my little worm or not. <3

My first ultrasound and bloodwork isn't until I'm 11 weeks. 😣

My office did because the appointment itself was a confirmation appointment. I called when I got positive tests and that the type of app they do when you call for a test. So they set it for about 8 weeks and took a urine sample, and then did a transvaginal ultrasound next thing. I have a first OB/Midwife app in a little less than 2 weeks which is an OB intake appointment which is supposed to be around an hour long and they'll take blood and do another ultrasound, probably abdominal. I think they often do a ultrasound at 8 weeks just in case it's ectopic or something.

My first appointment was made for what we thought would be 10 weeks. The dr said they don't typically do an ultrasound the first appointment but when she tried to use the Doppler to find the heartbeat she couldn't find one. So she sent me over for an ultrasound. The ultrasound tech found the baby right away with a good heartbeat of 162, she said the dr probably couldn't find the heartbeat because my bladder was so full 😂 also I only measured 8 wks 4 days!

I didn't know my due date because of an ambiguous cycle and they gave me an ultrasound to confirm. I was a full week behind what I bought so glad we checked!

I think for the most part many docs will have one done for dating around 8 weeks, but ive heard of some waiting until after 12 weeks.

I am a high risk mom. Had three previous miscarriages. I am being more closely monitored this time around. Had my fist ultrasound at 6 weeks and my second is booked for this Thursday at 8 weeks. Most non risk moms are anywhere between 8-10 weeks for your fist ultrasound. Good luck!

FTM here, too. I made my husband go with to our first appointment (yesterday) because I, too, had heard mixed information about whether or not we would have an ultrasound done and didn't want him to miss it. Our appointment was mostly informational - questions we had, general info about upcoming appointments, etc. She offered maybe trying to get a "sneak peak" ultrasound and we took her up on it no questions asked. We also lucked out on a heartbeat, too.

The nurse couldn't figure out my due date and she was puzzled as to how I got pregnant when that same day I went to the er for pain I had a negative blood test. So she send me for ultrasound after blood work showed I was very pregnant. I was 7 weeks and 3 days!! I got pregnant that same day I went to the ER lol My next ultrasound is the 30th and I'll we 12 weeks 3 days. It's for nuchal where they check the baby for Down syndrome and any abnormalities.

No US at my first (8wk) appt, won't get one until my 12wk.  My Doc said they only do one that early if I had a problem, like cramping/bleeding.
