What will happen to my daughter?

My daughter has never been in trouble with school or the law. But today, I have no idea what the heck she was thinking, got caught shoplifting at Walmart. She has to go to the town court Thursday. The police officers said since she's a good kid who's never done anything she's most likely going to get ACD with community service (which she doesn't mind because she's always volunteering a places). 
Do you think she will get community service or jail? She's only 17, I just don't want colleges seeing a dumb mistake on her part. 
I feel like court may be easier on her because she's never been in trouble. She's taking full responsibility and wants community service. She's grounded for such a long time. 
Why didn't they send her to youth court if she's only 17?

Naaah. She'll get a slap on the wrist. They r just trying to scare her going to court. I got caught selling drugs when I was in school n they gave me probation 4 8 months n community service. & I already had s record for the same offense

It’s really up to the store if they want to press charges and the amount (total cost) of the merchandise she had.. the judge may take into consideration that she is a good student and helps in her community already and taking account for her actions but then you have those judges who feel they need to teach kids a lesson I honestly think she will be okay

In some states you can be tried as an adult at the age of 17 I know because I got in a bad crash and my court date was two days after my 17th birthday and they almost sent me to an adult court but since the accident happened when I was 16 I was safe

My husband works as Loss Prevention in a department store. He says it all depends on the price of the items she stole, her age, if the store decides to prosecute (they usually don't for minors) and the leniency of the judge. I don't image they'd give her more than a slap on the wrist this time though.

I've been there, when I was a teen. She'll be okay, it could have been a lot worse. Just make sure it doesn't happen again! A second time would be sooo much worse than the first.
