Anyone else's SO okay with period sex?

My boyfriend and I just recently just had what I thought to be an embarrassing encounter. My period started while we were starting to have sex. It grossed me out, but he seemed to brush it off. I also told him we probably won't do it again until my period is over and yet he still thinks we'll go about our normal sex life. We haven't been dating too long, but I honestly reject him I know he will respect my wishes. I'm just curious if this is common?
