my experience: foley bulb/balloon induction for cervical ripening, outpatient

Meagen
My first thought is to not read what you see on the internet...but here I am.
I have a scheduled induction for tomorrow. I had the bulb placed at 2:30PM today at my OB office and sent home for a "normal night" before I report to hospital tomorrow at 5AM.
Doc talked me through everything, and he took his time. Speculum. Insert into my 0 dilated cervix. Pump with 40ml fluid. He did the fluid SLOWLY which was key, as this starts to immediately put pressure on your cervix to dilate, as is the point. It feels like a bad period cramp that won't subside. He gave me a minute and then continued once it DID subside. From there I didn't feel much except pressure. Then it was over, pull the spec, and tape the tube to my leg.
Immediate thoughts:
It's weird to have a dangling thing between my legs. Not sure how guys deal with this all day, every day.
It feels like being a teenager all over again when you didn't know how to put in a tampon properly. So awk.
So this little bday balloon is in my cervix nestled against babes head putting pressure on my cervix to move to a 3cm and will fall out once I'm there.
We did a non stress test after insertion, and babe is totally cool with the birthday balloon being all up in their business.
So I go home.
I'm afraid to go to the bathroom only because of awkwardness. Finally I have to pee so bad that I go everywhere because it runs the tube line taped to my leg. Reeeeeal classy 😂👌🏻 Perhaps practice for tomorrow's big game.
Feelings otherwise? I feel period cramps like doc told me I would. They're mostly on, but sometimes fade. I'm not in pain, just kinda crampy like Aunt Flo is back.
So that's my story. First time mom. Just thought I'd share since so many widely and wildly differing opinions are out there. I could be laying in a hospital bed tonight waiting just like I am now but with a pill in my hoohah, or I just get to be at home and get some last minute things done before the real game begins tomorrow. For me, this has been pretty good.
