D&C or natural?

Question

I just had an ultrasound at 10 weeks and there was no heartbeat. Dr thinks it happened about 2 weeks ago based on the baby's size.

I am about to go on a trip for 6 days. Should I try to let nature run its course or have a D&C? Are they covered by insurance?

I feel like my heart is praying that by some miracle the Dr was wrong, but My head saying that I still have to face the facts.

Hi Lindsay, sorry you're going through this! I had a missed miscarriage too. I waited to see if it would happen naturally but it didn't for 3 weeks after finding out, even with medicine that was supposed to help. I ended up having the d&c anyway. It was covered by my insurance but if course you have to have met your deductible if you don't want to pay anything. You'll have to decide for yourself how you want to handle everything, but from my experience by the time I had the d&c I was so ready to move on. It was an easy and quick process for me since I had conscious sedation. I got my period exactly one month later and then got pregnant the very next month. My baby is 3 months old today! Some people can't pass naturally and considering the fact that it's been two weeks, you can go into septic shock and possibly die from the baby dying inside you

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I was given the option and chose D&C. I preferred the finality of it. With natural there's always a chance that you'll have to have a D&C anyway if all the tissue does not pass natural.

The physical part of a D&C is not bad. You're asleep during the procedure and then you basically have a period for a week or two. The heaviness of the bleeding varies woman to woman.

Mine all happened naturally I've had 3 m/c. First one was 10 years ago at about 5 weeks and then one this pst April at 9 weeks and one last week at almost 7 weeks. I was offered a d&c (but I'm in canada so I do t have to worry about the cost ) but if your body isn't doing it for you and the medication they can give to help it doesn't work then you will need a d&c to avoid infection

I had a miscarriage in February and chose to have a D&C. For me, I didn't think I could handle the emotional aspect of doing it naturally. I felt the D&C helped me have closure and grieve sooner rather than later. I also am a therapist and on my feet all day long, so I didn't want it to interrupt my job. The procedure was so easy physically. Of course it was all so emotional, but physically I felt fine. I only bled a little after, and my cycle returned exactly 4 weeks later. Actually came back "normal" vs the abnormal that I was having prior. I am so sorry you are going through this. It is such an emotional roller coaster, but know that you are NOT a lone. Know that it's OK to not be OK. It's okay to cry, be sad, be and angry. But be kind to yourself. Treat yourself to some nice things to help brighten your mood. Turn to those who have been through this. For me it helped to talk about it, and made it worse to keep it in. I didn't understand why women don't talk about it. To me it was saying I was ashamed of my child. No I never got to hear the heartbeat. But I still lost a child. Hugs and prayers to you! ❤️

I'm sorry for your loss. I chose to get a d&c because my missed miscarriage was passed by two weeks and I had shown absolutely zero signs of miscarriage happening naturally. Outside of that, I just don't think I could do the natural miscarriage at home emotionally.

The hospital took my baby's remains to a funeral home where it was cremated and memorialized along with other couple's children. That is ultimately what made me make the decision, because I couldn't bare the thought of my baby being flushed down a toilet and sent through the sewer system. Though I know not everyone feels that way, d&c was my choice and while still recovering (we found out Thursday and the procedure was Friday morning) I still feel like it was the right choice for me.

I was 12wks and the baby was only measuring 8.5wks. I was giving the option to naturally pass my child. Because my body wasn't passing my miscarriage. As a nurse, I believe it's healthier for you to have a d&c. Your obgyn will go in and insure all is clear and healthily for future pregnancy. I'm so so sorry for your loss. I'm so sorry you're going through it. I also opted for a d&c. I actually did it under local anesthesia but do not recommend it that way - do it under general anesthesia. The whole procedure is quick. I only bled for 1/2 a day and lightly spotted for a week. I had cramps for a few days but ibuprofen helped. It helped me to emotionally heal rather than waiting around for me to naturally pass.
