COPPER IUD YES/NO/MAYBE SO??

Question

Here's my first question ladies. If anyone has the copper IUD i would love to hear the good, bad and the ugly. I would also like to know does it help with period heaviness or period cramps (this device came recommended by my dr due to the fact I get major cramps) of course I'm doing my own research though.

Also do you think it's a good idea to talk to my boyfriend about the IUD and get his input. In a way it will be effecting him as well.

I just got my copper IUD and I love it already. Getting it inserted didn't hurt at all. Before I got it I was absolutely terrified because of all the scary experiences I had read about people getting it inserted. But I got to the doctor and he offered to give me a shot that will help me relax and be less anxious and nervous about it and it helped a ton. Getting it actually put in didn't hurt at all. The only thing was that there was a little tiny bit of pressure when actually putting it in. And it only last 2 seconds and it wasn't even as bad as a light period cramp. And I still haven't had any cramps since I got mine put in!

I was going to get the copper IUD because I haven't taken to estrogen very well but my cramps/heavy periods are the main reason I'm on BC & my doctor said that the copper IUD will make your periods worse aka longer and heavier with more cramping so I have the Mirena IUD which is progesterone only. I have a 1-4 day long period every couple of months with light cramping

I've had mine for two months now and I haven't noticed a difference with cramps (They were bad to begin with and haven't changed). For me, I've noticed it gives me more frequent, tiny cramps (around ovulation and before my period is about to start), but apart from that, it's been fantastic! Worst part was putting it in (Pinch like sensation), but take painkillers 10 mins before hand and it should help, but ask your doc what you could take before hand as well (If they suggest a certain type, as some do).

Copper IUDs are nice because they aren't laced with hormones. It's a very all natural approach to preventing pregnancy.  
It is not used to help cramps, shorten periods, or regulate your cycle. 
It is only to kill sperm. The ions from the copper spreads into the cervical miscues and kills sperm immediately. That is its only purpose... to kill sperm. Nothing more.
