Humidifier?

My husband and I are from central California where it's never humid. Now we live in Alabama and humanity is crazy. What exactly does a humidifier do and would it come in handy for when are baby arrives? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but we are completely clueless when it comes to this type of weather.

A humidifier adds moisture to the air.    So would be ideal in a dry climate.  Probably not what you want.
A dehumidifier takes moisture out of the air.  It can decrease the humidity level in a home.  It can help so the AC doesn't have to work quite as hard to cool the air.  Reducing humidity in the house can also help control certain allergens.  Hope that helps!

I'm in Miami,  and yes baby needs a humidifier it helps loosen up phlegm and is a decongestant.

Oh you are in for it lol. I've lived in Alabama my whole life and people don't know what hot and humid is until  they come to Bama. I'd get a dehumidifier. I'd say I'm use to the humidity  but you never really  get use to it. The other day at 7am I walked outside and was soaking wet from the humidity.  They make air conditioners that control the humidity in your home so you don't use as much energy running  your air conitioner. But that's obviously expensive so a dehumidifier will be your best bet. I'm debating on buying one for my house.
